Offers eligible consumers repair assistance and vehicle retirement options to help improve California's air quality.
Program includes:
- Repair Assistance: Eligible consumers may receive up to $1450 in emissions-related repairs for model year 1996 or newer or $1100 in emissions-related repairs for model year 1976-1995
- Vehicle Retirement: Eligible consumers may receive $1500 or $2000 to retire operational vehicle. Those not meeting income requirements may receive $1,350 to retire vehicle.

- Eligibility: Meet program requirements and income eligibility. Household gross income must be less than or equal to 225% of federal poverty level. Household size / Annual Gross Income 1 person / $33,885 2 people / $45,990 3 people / $58,095 4 people / $70,200 5 people / $82,305 6 people / $94,410 7 people / $106,515 8 people / $118,620 For families with more than 8 persons, add the following $12,105 for each individual. CAP Repair Assistance criteria: -Must be the registered owner of the vehicle with the vehicle title issued in your name. -Must not have previously participated in CAP with the same vehicle. -Must pay a co-payment toward the total cost of diagnosis and emissions-related repairs. The co-payment is based on the model year of your vehicle and the total cost of diagnosis and emissions-related repairs. CAP Vehicle Retirement criteria: -Must be the registered owner of the vehicle with the vehicle title issued in your name. -Must not have retired another vehicle as a sole owner OR more than two vehicles as a joint owner within the past 12 months. -Vehicle must have failed its most recent Smog Check inspection. -Vehicle must be currently registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) with a valid and unexpired registration sticker OR have all fees paid to DMV and not have a registration sticker that has been expired more than 120 days.
